Italian Elections
Most Right Wing Government Since Mussolini
Initial statement from ISA in Italy
A coming storm
These elections have reaffirmed the deep political crisis in Italy. With the lowest turnout in republican history, the right wing is confirmed as the largest parliamentary force and Fratelli d’Italia as the largest national party. We must prepare for the most right-wing government since the fall of fascism. Migrants, LGBT+ people, women and workers of all stripes will be in the crosshairs. We must respond!
Misery grows
25.2% of the Italian population is at risk of social exclusion. 5.6 million people live in absolute poverty. But while we struggle to make ends meet, banks and large corporations make record profits. The right-wing promises them even more tax breaks, while we prepare for a hard winter with consistently rising prices.
From anger to action
Palace politics is once again proving to be a failure in stopping the right-wing advance. The Partito Democratico, tthe 5 star movement or yet another technocrat cannot stop the reactionary forces. Only the working class can truly challenge the right and big business. We must take action to demand emergency social and climate measures.
Let’s organise!
We must organize in our schools, neighborhoods and workplaces. Our politics must start again in the streets, unions, community organizations, factory collectives and social movements all have an important role to play. We must give back a voice to those millions of young, working-class people who do not recognise themselves in this political system. Our struggles have common roots and together we can make a difference.
Unity in struggle
We need a movement that unites all the struggles of the working class. We need to act against racism, sexism, LGBTQIA+phobia and all oppressions. We need to defend our rights and fight for more of them. Wages, housing, precarity, cost of living are all issues that unite us. The exploitation and misery imposed on us by capitalism requires a common and international struggle.
For socialism
The working class holds the keys to the economy. If it wants, it can stop it. The resources to deal with the crises exist. But they must be freed from the logic of profit. The capitalists thrive on the cost of living, oppression and exploitation. Our struggle is for revolutionary socialism that puts our needs above the profits of a tiny minority.
