This is the start of our live broadcasting from Glasgow, where the ISA is actively intervening in the protests around the COP 26 summit — where world leaders and their diplomatic corps are gathering, or at least those that could be bothered to turn up to discuss how they are going to deal, or more likely ignore the climate crisis. The latest announcement is that they have scraped up the sum of $18 billion to end the use of coal. This is just half of what the UK government alone is planning to spend on replacing her Trident nuclear missiles, which are currently based just outside Glasgow, despite widespread opposition to their presence there. Of course, these capitalist governments have made no provisions to ensure that the whole world will have access to cheap, clean, environmentally friendly and publicly owned energy.
Today the summit is devoted to youth issues! But youth across the world are up in arms about the inaction of the same world powers in dealing with the climate. Glasgow today is to see a youth demonstration opposed to COP 26. It promises to be lively, not least because the ISA will be there.
Over the past day members and supporters of ISA have been flooding into to Glasgow from all over the world — Brazil, Israel, Poland, United States, and of course from across Europe on buses from Belgium, Germany, Austria, across the Irish sea by ferry all determined to participate to energetically propose our socialist solution to the climate crisis.
Before they left our Austrian comrades were intervening in solidarity with striking metal workers.
Barely time to rest and already in a meeting to plan our intervention.
So far, no time to relax. We were out at the crack of dawn to get the best sites for our stalls this morning.
